Four Ways for a Successful Interview

There really aren't too many things in life more awkward than a job interview. You're dressed in formal business clothing, sitting across from a stranger. This stranger has the right to ask you anything from the most elaborate to the most mundane questions. There are some definite no-no's you need to avoid if you want to make it to the next level.

1. Don't try to outwit or outguess the interviewer.

Most candidates go into a job interview thinking it's a contest where the goal is to defeat the interviewer in some type of battle of wits.

2. Read the job description.

I call the job description the "cheat sheet" for the interview. Chances are the items listed on the job description will come up in the interview. For instance, if the job description says, "looking for creative problem-solvers" one of the questions you will receive is, "Give me an example of when you creatively solved a problem."

3. Have reasons for everything you've done.

Most companies conduct behavioral interviews. It means they are more interested in the hows and the whys as opposed to the whats. They want to know what makes you tick. An interviewer is not simply going to say, "Oh, I see that you worked as a sales rep in your last job. Cool."

4. Ask questions.

There is nothing more damaging than not having a single question at the end of an interview. It shows that you have no curiosity or interest in the organization. Almost every interviewer will leave about five minutes at the end of the interview to answer questions. Make sure you have a couple.

So there you have it. Four quick ways that you can make sure you ace the interview and have the job offers rolling in. Good luck!

Is Computer Addiction a Medical Issue?

Alcohol, drugs, food, sex, and even shopping are all candidates for medical treatment and are recognized as genuine mental disorders, so what about the Internet? Internet addiction is defined as "excessive gaming, sexual pre-occupations, and email/text messaging" - is becoming so common that at least one psychiatrist says it merits inclusion in psychiatry's official handbook of mental illness, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

An expert is noting that tech junkies display genuinely debilitating behavior, including drug-like cravings, withdrawal, and a constant need for more and better gear - just like a substance addict might exhibit.

But other doctors comment that Internet addiction, while it may be real, is too new of a condition and needs further study before being medically classified. There might be something to this: No one wants people being medicated or institutionalized if they aren't genuinely ill.

Meanwhile, mind docs say the problem is growing, now possibly affecting up to 10 percent of Internet users. Recent studies are surprising, indicating the problem is worst not among game-obsessed teens, but rather among middle-aged women who stay at home, constantly on the computer as a way of connecting to the outside world.

Is computer use or computer downtime causing a problem in your life? If so, you might be an addict. But you'll have to wait a few more years to find out for sure.

Yoga

What’s involved with Yoga?

The practice of yoga involves stretching the body and forming different poses, while keeping breathing slow and controlled. The body becomes relaxed and energized at the same time. There are various styles of yoga, some moving through the poses more quickly, almost like an aerobic workout, and other styles relaxing deeply into each pose. Some have a more spiritual angle, while others are used purely as a form of exercise.

What Are The Benefits Of Yoga?

Virtually everyone can see physical benefits from yoga, and its practice can also give psychological benefits, such as stress reduction and a sense of well-being, and spiritual benefits, such as a feeling of connectedness with God or Spirit, or a feeling of transcendence. Certain poses can be done just about anywhere and a yoga program can go for hours or minutes, depending on one’s schedule.

What Are the Drawbacks of Yoga?

Yoga does require some commitment of time and is more difficult for people with certain physical limitations. Some people feel self-conscious doing some of the poses. Also, yoga classes can be expensive, although it is possible, albeit perhaps more challenging, to learn from a book or video.

What to Wear with Leggings

Several years ago, legwarmers surfaced back on the style radar. This season, the reborn ‘80s fad of choice is footless tights or leggings. Not only have they shown up all over the runways, but they have become favorite fare of young leading ladies.

Mini

Leggings and skirts are truly a dynamic duo. If you have qualms about showing off your stems, add a pair of leggings in to the mix. Leggings enable skin-shy women to pull off skirts of all lengths. Choose a color that coordinates with your top, and keep in mind that dark colors are always more flattering.

Shirtdresses

Peeking out from a sturdy shirtdress, tights add an extra layer of style, often in the form of a pattern or color. When it comes to sun dresses and other breezy numbers, take caution: most flirty frocks are just too light for tights. A good rule of thumb is that if the dress demands heels, stick to bare legs. On the other hand, flats and sandals work, leggings will too.

Tunics

If you want your tights can take the spotlight, pair them with a tunic. Standard tees and tanks simply won’t work unless you’re a model or an aerobics instructor–make sure your top hem touches your upper thigh, and you’re good to go.

Flats

High heels tend to look very “retro dance queen” teamed with tights–and not in a good way. Avoid heels of any height and instead opt for ballet flats, skimmers, moccasins, and slides. With stylish flats, you can pull off tights with casual ease.

Colbie Caillat's Bibliography

By age 21, Californian vocalist Colbie Caillat had evolved swiftly from an aspiring R&B/folk singer to a pop sensation with the marketing assistance of a little networking tool called Myspace. She grew up in Malibu and Ventura County and caught the music bug at an early age from her father Ken Caillat, an established audio engineer who helped produce Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Tusk.

Songs were often mixed at the console in her Malibu beach house, filling the corridors with the sound of Billy Idol, Pat Benatar, and other '80s pop/rock. As a child, Caillat gave piano lessons a try but wasn't inspired until she turned 11 years old and became enthralled watching Lauryn Hill sing in Sister Act 2. Immediately realizing that she wanted to be a singer, and with her parents' encouragement, she started taking vocal lessons.

At age 15, in a twist of fate, she met Mikal Blue, a producer who had previously worked with Five for Fighting and Carrie Underwood. He hired her to sing on a few techno songs that were to be used during runway models' shows and they cultivated a professional relationship and began writing together. At 19, she picked up an acoustic guitar and the two recorded the first song she composed. As the collaboration thickened, Jason Reeves entered the picture and lent his artistic know-how to help shape and craft the music for her debut, Coco. Caillat wrote the basic melodies, usually in her bathroom because of the reverby acoustics, and would then bounce her ideas off Blue or Reeves for their artistic input.

After finishing a handful of songs, she posted some tunes on Myspace and generated virtually no response for the first few months. To her astonishment, when she added the single "Bubbly" to the site, people latched on to the catchy hook. As word of mouth spread, her page pulled in a few thousand hits a day; after she had accumulated 6,240 friends, Rolling Stone highlighted her as one of the top female artists on Myspace. For four months, she was the number one unsigned artist, and garnered over 14 million plays. With such an appealing statistic on her résumé, record labels began courting her and she signed to Universal Republic, as her number of online friends surpassed the 100,000 mark.

In July of 2007, her label released Coco.

The liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger. A liger resembles a lion with diffused stripes. They are the largest cats in the world, although the Siberian Tiger is the largest "pure" taxon. Ligers and tigers enjoy swimming, whereas lions do not. A similar hybrid, the offspring of a male tiger and a female lion is called a tigon.

The liger is a cat born from the breeding of a male lion and a female tiger. This combination produces an offspring with more lionistic features than if the reverse pairing had occured. That would produce a more tigeristic creature known as a tigon. Both are members of genus Panthera. There is no scientific name assigned to this animal because of its human assisted ancestory.

Rare reports have been made of tigresses mating with lions in the wild. Such mating may have occurred when, in uncommon circumstances, tigers were forced into ranges inhabited by the Asiatic Lion,Panthera leo persica . However, since the present-day ranges of wild lions and tigers no longer overlap, it is generally held that such a combination of species would occur very rarely.

A liger looks like a giant lion with muted stripes but like thier tiger ancestors, ligers like swimming. This goes against the nature of a lion but is what makes creature special. It gets the best of both parents. That is not always the case though with crossbreeds. Sometimes the results go the other way and the animal gets the worst of both parents. That would suck!

Keep Your iPod Cords Untangled For Free

You make a devil horn with your fingers as in the diagram, hold the earbuds down with your index and middle fingers, and then wrap the cords around each "devil horn" like a figure eight. Take the last six inches of cord and circle it around the figure-eight wrap. Take it off your fingers and it's a nice little package that unravels with no knots at all. It may not read simply, but it is once you get the hang of it. If I can do it, you can definitely do it.

How to Look Good in Front of the Camera

Here are a few of my favorite tips for looking and feeling good on camera:

  • Pose like a celebrity! — Rihanna and Jenna Jameson love the over-the-shoulder pose because it flaunts your back and draws attention to detail of your gown if it's backless or really ornate. Not for you? Standing at an angle like Michelle Trachtenberg with one knee out (I call it the "cheerleader stance") makes you appear slimmer in pics. Cross your ankles to elongate your legs and make sure your shoulders are back and you're standing tall.
  • Avoid blinking — Ask your photographer to try taking two or three photos so that your eyes can adapt to the flash. Most people blink from the anticipation and shock of the bright light in their eyes.
  • Does the camera really add 10 pounds? — Not really, it's usually just bad lighting. Still, there are ways to work around it. Consider casting from an angle and wear dark colors because they cast fewer shadows under lighting.
  • Still feel fat? — There are actually slimming cameras that will condense the image to make you look slimmer. It's not for everyone, but you can see a difference.

Transformers 2

The annual Visual Effects Society awards took place on Monday night and Michael Bay was there (of course) along with the entire ILM visual effects team and various Transformers 2 cast members. (including smoking hot Megan Fox!) Michael Bay revealed that he has been working on the Transformers 2 script script himself during the writer’s strike. (which has recently ended) Bay has been working vigilantly in order to assure that the writer’s strike would not effect the projected Transformers 2 Release Date:

I’ve been writing Transformers 2,” said Bay. “We’ve got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies anyway so at least I’ve got something to give the writers. It’s like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that.”

So it looks like our Transformers sequel is moving right along! Shooting is expected to begin in early June of this year. The expected Transformers 2 release date is still June 24th, 2009. ILM Visual Effects guru Scott Ferrar also has some exciting TF2 info, dropping quotable gems for us die hard Transformers fans: “beginning animatics … they’re unbelievable.”“Michael’s added a lot more robots”“this one is going to have a huge production value.”

Well we are just pumped to see that the strike is over! It looks like the sequel machine is now in full effect, we will have more on this in the very near future.

Thw World's Most Expensive Earrings

Have you ever wondered what the most expensive earrings in the world look like? Get a load of this looker. Harry Winston is the 'jeweler to the stars' and you can find him, where else, at the House of Winston at 371 N. Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, California. Every year Harry Winston lends out hundreds of millions of dollars worth of jewelry to the stars so they can look good at the Oscars. Talk about star treatment. He gives them the privilege to shine their way to the red carpet, even brighter than the stars that they are.

And for 2006 the House of Winston created a pair of 'Extraordinary Diamond Drop Earrings' consisting of two pear-shaped diamonds in a platinum setting totaling 60.1 carats of wallet emptying glitter. Wearing it would be like having your house and lot, and your car on your earlobes! Wow, a treat for the eyes and ears.

If you're interested in buying the world's most expensive earrings be prepared to shell out a cool $8.5 million USD. Apparently, not anyone can avail this pair of assets. What kind of knock-off can afford to spend almost 9 million dollars on an accessory? Accessories go out of style every once in a while, but not this beauty. Even generations from now, this baby can blind eyes and make others flare with envy.
